USHJA FOUNDATION HAMEL SCHOLARSHIP FOR FURTHER EDUCATION

The USHJA Foundation, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit that provides charitable financial and educational assistance to members of the hunter/jumper community, is pleased to offer the USHJA Foundation Hamel Scholarship for Further Education. The scholarship award in the amount of up to $25,000 will be awarded annually and shall be used for college, graduate, trade or professional school. To be eligible for consideration, a candidate must meet the requirements listed below and complete an application with any other mandatory documents. Candidate may only be awarded the USHJA Foundation Hamel Scholarship for Further Education once. All required materials must be received by the USHJA Foundation no later than May 15, 2018.

The Hamel Scholarship for Further Education is made possible through the USHJA Foundation thanks to the generosity of the Kristen and James Hamel Family Foundation.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Acceptance to a college, graduate, professional, or trade school and be entering the 2018 fall semester as freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, trade or graduate student.
  • U.S. citizen and/or legal permanent resident
  • Minimum of three consecutive years of active USHJA membership (including 2018) 
    • Meet at least one academic/employment requirement as listed below: Top 20% class rank
    • 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
    • Equivalent Employment History (if no transcript is available)
  • Demonstrate financial need

COMPLETED SUBMISSIONS MUST INCLUDE:

  • Fully completed and signed application form.
  • A copy of your FAFSA (Free Application Federal Student Aid) application or most recent tax return if a FAFSA is not filed.
    • The FAFSA is the universal application for college financial assistance, and we require it for this grant to determine financial need. For more information on FAFSA, visit www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Copy of college, graduate, professional or trade school acceptance letter or proof of registration for the fall semester 2018.
  • Most recent high school or college transcript (if you are already attending college). If your high school/college transcript is not available please detail work history and attach current resume.
  • Three, one-page letters of recommendation from teachers, employers, coaches or trainers and/or those you reported to during your community service. Letters should detail your background, achievements, examples of leadership and community involvement. Letters from relatives will not be accepted. Please, no form letters
  • Typed essay, no longer than one page, on the following subject: “How has your experience with horses and riding influenced your life and prepared you for your future goals?”
