AFA Association Awards

Tell us who is an AFA Superstar. The American Fence Association’s (AFA) Association Awards recognize AFA members who are committed to the industry and contribute to the work of the AFA. Eligibility criteria for each award is available on the AFA Association Awards webpage and outlined once you select the appropriate award from the nomination menu. Nominate a deserving individual or company for one or more of the AFA Association Awards:

  • Ambassador
  • Distinguished Service
  • Fence Contractor of the Year
  • Hall of Fame
  • Manufacturer of the Year
  • Oustanding Service

You can nominate an individual or company for one or more Association Awards as long as the nominee meets the eligibility criteria. Please complete a separate nomination form for each award. To complete the application you will need to provide details on the nominee’s personal and professional contributions of service to the fence industry, such as:

  • Number of years in the Industry
  • AFA Board and Committee Service (Role, Years Served, etc.)
  • Participation at the Chapter Level (Role, Years Served, etc.)
  • Participation at the National Level (FENCETECH, AFA University)
  • Participation in the Local Community

Winners will be selected by a committee of industry professionals, AFA volunteers, and prior award winners.

Rules

The eligibility varies for each award. Please read the eligibility criteria carefully prior to submitting the nomination. Incomplete and ineligible nominations will not be accepted.

Ambassador Award Eligibility

  • Nominee must be a member in good standing for the past five (5) consecutive years. Nominating individual or organization must be affiliated with an AFA member company in good standing at time of nomination. 
  • Nominee must have a minimum of five (5) years of service in the fence industry. The time frame of service shall be inclusive of all years in the industry and not limited to years of service at any one company.
  • Nominee must adhere to the American Fence Association’s statement of Business and Ethical Practices.
  • Nominee must have shown a specific service to the association and industry. Service will be interpreted as, but not limited to, AFA committee work, AFA chapter participation as an officer or committee chair, or serving on the AFA  board.
  • Posthumous awards may be accepted if the criteria for eligibility are met.
  • Multiple nominations by a sponsor are permitted. 

Distinguished Service Award Eligibility

  • Nominee and those sponsoring the nominee must be affiliated with an AFA member compnay in good standing at the time of the nomination. 
  • Nominee must have a minimum of 20 years of service in the fence industry with the last ten (10) years serving in an upper management or ownership position. The period of service shall be inclusive of all years in the industry and not limited to years of service at any one company.
  • Nominee must have displayed business integrity, be highly respected in the industry.
  • Posthumous awards may be accepted if the criteria for eligibility are met.
  • Multiple nominations by a sponsor are permitted.

Contractor of the Year Award Eligibility

  • Nominated company must be an AFA contractor member in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • Nominee must adhere to the American Fence Association’s statement of Business and Ethical Practices.
  • Nominee must actively participate in the local chapter meetings and activities.
  • Nominee must be involved in the National AFA, through participation in national activities such as attendance at FENCETECH within the past twenty-four (24) months.
  • All nominations shall include a typed statement (no more than one page) from the sponsor, describing in detail the nominee’s participation in the local chapter, any local community involvement, Association involvement through attendance at FENCETECH, AFA University, etc. and why the nominee deserves the award. Any nomination not containing a signed statement will not be eligible.
  • Nominee’s Chapter and community involvement criteria will be verified with his or her local AFA Chapter.
  • Incomplete nomination forms will not be eligible.

Hall of Fame Award Eligibility

  • Nominee must be a member in good standing for the past five (5) consecutive years. Nominating individual or organization must be affiliated with an AFA member company in good standing.
  • Hall of Fame nominees must have a minimum of 25 years of service in the fence industry and have made a substantial contribution in one of the following:
    • Outstanding support of the AFA through volunteer service on boards or committees.
    • Distinguished contributions through leadership or support within fence industry.
  • Nominee shall have a high standard of unquestionable ethics and moral character.
  • The nominee sponsor should submit a letter outlining the nominee's contribution to the AFA and the fence industry throughout the nominee's lifetime.

Manufacturer of the Year Award Eligibility

  • Nominee must be an AFA manufacturer member in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • Nominee must adhere to the American Fence Association’s statement of Business and Ethical Practices.
  • Nominee must actively participate in local chapter meetings and activities.
  • Nominee must be involved in the National AFA, through participation in national activities such as attendance at FENCETECH within the past twenty-four (24) months.
  • All nominations shall include a typed statement (no more than one page) from the sponsor, describing in detail the nominee’s participation in the local chapter, any local community involvement, Association involvement through attendance at FENCETECH, AFA University, etc. and why the nominee deserves the award. Any nomination not containing a signed statement will not be eligible.
  • Nominee’s Chapter and community involvement criteria will be verified with the local AFA Chapter.
  • Incomplete nomination forms will not be eligible.

Outstanding Service Award Eligibility 

  • Nominee(s) and those sponsoring the nominee must be affiliated with an AFA member company in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • Nominee(s) must have a minimum of ten (10) years of service in the fence industry. The time frame of service shall be inclusive of all years in the industry and not limited to years of service at any one company.
  • Nominee(s) must have displayed one or more of the following volunteer speaker/trainer roles:
    1. Participated in a leadership role as Chair or instructor at one or more of AFA's training schools for a minimum of five (5) years.
    2. Provided training of AFA members at Chapter meetings for a minimum of five (5) years.
    3. Served as a speaker at FENCETECH for a minimum of five (5) years.
    4. Served as a Chair or member of an AFA committee/taskforce for a minimum of five (5) years.
    5. Any combination of the above criteria shall constitute the minimum five (5) year requirement.
  • Nominee(s) shall be highly respected in the industry.
  • Nominee(s) shall adhere to the American Fence Association's statement of Business and Ethical Practices. 
  • All nominations shall include a typed statement (no more than one page) from the sponsor describing in detail the nominee's accomplishments in the industry, within the AFA and why the nominee deserves the award. Any nomination not containing a signed statement will not be eligible.
  • Posthumous nominations may be accepted if the criteria for eligibility are met.
  • Multiple nominations by a sponsor are permitted.
