Description

The 6th Annual SEED Center Business Pitch Competition is open to all residents of Southwest Louisiana (Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jeff Davis Parishes). The Angels of Southwest Louisiana are awarding $2,500 to the winner (individual or team) in each division.

The competition has four divisions:

  • College students from the 5 parish area
  • Local high school students
  • General Business
  • Technical sector

The Goal

The goal of the Business Pitch Competition is to increase awareness:

  • of the SEED Center
  • Business Incubator
  • and increase entrepreneurship in local region.
Rules

Entry and Registration

  • There is no fee for entry.
  • Submissions may be entered as individuals or teams.
  • The maximum number of team members for a single pitch is limited to 4 persons.
  • Only one submission is allowed per individual or team.
  • Only the pitching individual or the pitching members of a team may pitch to the panel of judges or answer questions from the judges.
  • Entries must be the original work of the entrants.
  • All submissions must be for ideas that will be implemented in the SWLA region.
  • Event participation is limited to individuals and team residing and working in the SWLA region.  
  • Submissions must no more than 10 pages in length, 12 point font and double-spaced.
  • Entries may not have won a top prize in previous SEED Center Business Pitch Competitions. 
  • Applicants must receive a satisfactory score to be eligible to win. 
  • Decision of the judges is final.
  • In the event there is ONLY one entry in a division, this does not mean that there will be an automatic winner

You may edit your submission until 12 midnight Central Time April 10. 

  1. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT YOUR SUBMISSION IS COMPLETE AND SUBMITTED TO THE SYSTEM. 
  2. All submissions will be reviewed for completeness and graded. From this initial round, finalists will be selected and invited to formally present in person to a select panel of judges.

Finalists Formal Presentation

  • Finalists will have 7 (seven) minutes maximum to present their business pitch.
  • You will be STOPPED if you exceed 7 minutes.
  • After each presentation, 3-5 minutes  will be allowed for questions and answers.
  • Finalists may use slides, PowerPoints, demonstrations or video presentations
  • (Although NOT required) Materials may be provided for the judges (3-7) BUT NOT for the audience.

Confidentiality

  • Confidentiality is not guaranteed in any way.  Do Not include confidential material in your submissions.  There is no way for the SEED Center Business Pitch Competition or its Organizers to enforce or prohibit other competitors, audience members or judges who see and hear a pitch competitor's materials form sharing the idea or materials.
  • Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) between a competitor and the judges, audience members or SEED Center Business Pitch Organizers will not be required or allowed.
  • Sharing your idea or concept may be deemed a public disclosure, so if you are interested in filing a patent, you may need to consult a patent attorney or other professional advice before entering the competition.
  • SEED Center Business Pitch Competition and its Organizers are not responsible for any confidentially issues that may occur during the course of the competition and will not be involved in any way with disputes arising therefrom.
  • SEED Center Business Pitch Competition or its Organizers may take photographs and/or videos of any materials used or made available by pitching individuals or teams during the competition for public relations purposes.  Any content presented by a competitor should be considered public knowledge.
  • Competitors may exclude any proprietary information or materials that the competitor feels is at risk of disclosure.

SEED Center Business Pitch Competition and its Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any entry in its judgment that violates the rules of the competition or is not aligned with the purpose of the competition.

SEED Center Business Pitch Competition and its Organizers assume no responsibility to ensure the confidentiality of any information disclosed during the competition.
