2019 Regnier Venture Creation Challenge

May 2-3, 2019

The Regnier Venture Creation Challenge is a business plan and pitch competition promoting entrepreneurship. Applications are open to university students in Missouri and Kansas and current Entrepreneurship Scholars.

Returning for the second year is the Blue KC Healthcare Innovation Prize. The Blue KC Healthcare Innovation Prize will award first and second place prizes to an individual or team who submits a healthcare-related venture that inspires change in the space and meets the needs of the people that matter most: patients.

  • Thursday, May 2, 2019 - The Kauffman Foundation Conference Center - Town Hall
    • 5:00-7:30pm - Venture Expo and Kickoff Event 
  • Friday, May 3., 2019 - UMKC Campus - Bloch Executive Hall
    • Pitch Competition
    • Semifinals
    • Finals
    • Awards Presentation


  • Individuals or at least one member of the team must be a degree-seeking college student at any college or university Kansas or Missouri, or a participant in UMKC Entrepreneurship Scholars program
  • Venture must be new, independent, in the seed, startup, or early growth stages
  • Teams may be no larger than six members
  • To be eligible for the Blue KC Healthcare Innovation Prize, ventures must improve the patient/member experience through care delivery innovation, digital health capabilities, tools/devices/apps, or other advancements​

  • Thursday, April 18, 2019 (11:59pm) – Registration Deadline on Reviewr
  • Thursday, April 18, 2019 (11:59pm) – Business Plan Submission Deadline through Reviewr
  • Friday, April 26, 2019 (by 5:00pm) - Accepted/Denied Notifications Sent via Email
  • Monday, April 29, 2019 (by 12:00pm noon) – Deadline for ventures to accept invitation to compete via email
  • Thursday, May 2, 2019 – Evening kickoff event and Venture Expo
  • Friday, May 3, 2019 – Pitch, semifinals, finals, and awards ceremony

Business Plan Resources, Submission Information, and Evaluation Criteria

  • The business plan slide deck template can be accessed here.
  • Teams invited to pitch will have 5 minutes to pitch and 5 minutes for Q&A with judges
  • Teams that advance past the pitch round and into the semi-finals round will have 10 minutes to present and 5 minutes for Q&A with judges
  • Teams that advance past the semi-finals round and into the finalist round will have 10 minutes to present and 10 minutes for Q&A with judges
